Field Notes / Fun with Ultra Violet light

The UV exposure unit..

while using the Sun’s abundant U.V. rays are fine for contact printing, few things are more frustrating than overcast weather. Sometimes a new solution is what’s needed and can help you get out of that rut. In this case I needed to be able to print inside away from the elements so I made my own home made exposure unit.

I began by repurposing an old flat file drawer cabinet, transforming it into the perfect box for my exposure unit. I took out the bottom panals of a few drawers. attached some LED strips that emit just the right wave length in ultraviolet light, (crucial for my printing proces) to the underside of the lid and with a few modifications and a fresh coat of paint, BAM it became both functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time AND It integrated seamlessly into my workspace, ensuring convenience and ease of use. Quite affordable and easy to achieve!
